sonnet 105.

there are at least three parts to an event -
a pond-tossed stone, let’s say, creates a sound
and ripples that reverberate around -
there’s the initial lead-up: the intent
to throw, selection of the implement
and so on; then the splash, which then resounds
as further repercussions are compounded;
past, present, future - that’s all that i meant.
but what is an event? a paradox;
each present is all future moments’ past
and future of the presents just before;
all history’s within one arcing rock.
it’s pointless to inspect a single splash;
unending ripples lap upon the shore.
